The Sorriness Of Greg Ellis

Posted by naveed2 on October 5, 2007

EllisHutch: What are your thoughts on Greg Ellis and his miraculously healed Achilles now that Jerry gave him an additional $2 million?

Woodall: Seems pretty ridiculous to me. Perhaps the whole thing is a giant coincidence, but it seems very possible that the two are linked. If that is the case, I can’t stand Greg Ellis. Reminds me of John Abraham a few years ago. He was in his walk year with the Jets and he refused to play (citing some bogus injury) during the playoffs because he didn’t want to mess up his “financial future”. I tell you what. As much as I can’t stand TO, what he did in the playoffs his first year with the Eagles (playing injured during the playoffs…and playing exceptionally well) helped me gain some more respect for the guy.

Hutch: There’s no way to spin it, it is incredibly sorry. Never mind the fact Ellis is a captain. To milk an injury for over a year because you don’t think the base salary and signing bonus you got was high enough puts him on my jerk list. If he didn’t like the contract he was offered a year before the injury, then he shouldn’t have signed it. I will say I have a lot of respect for Jerry though. I think he knew he was getting played but also knew he had a pretty good team this year and Ellis could contribute. I just do hope other players don’t get the same idea.

Woodall: No kidding. Not just with the Cowboys either. I would hope that this doesn’t become a league-wide way of dealing with “not making enough money”. I completely understand that in the NFL with contracts being so far on the owner’s side that it can sometimes suck for the players. But lying like this is not the way to go about dealing with that.

Dallas Cowboys fans are mixed on this subject.. Im actually one of the fans that is disgusted by this move.. Greg Ellis was an upstanding member of the Cowboys.. now in my eyes.. merely a con man.. Had he not been upset about his contract before training camp started.. I might actually believe that he was hurt, and questioning if he could play! It was a sad day in Cowboy history when this story broke about what he did to get more money out of Jerry Jones!
